Sociology Subject Taster

After considering some of the key concepts, themes and methods of sociology, we will then go on to look at how these have been applied in real-world sociological research.

We will review a classic study on suicide and consider why such a seemingly individual and private act follows such consistent patterns. We will also look at a piece of contemporary sociology in which researchers have identified a ‘class ceiling’ within top jobs in Britain.

Finally, we will focus on the experience of studying sociology at university. This will include comparing different courses and modules, taking a virtual campus tour and looking at career options.
