Philosophy Subject Taster
 
 
 
 

An introduction to what it’s like to study Philosophy at University, including taster lessons about the Trolley Problem in Ethics and the philosophical question of whether our emotional responses to fiction are real. This 3-part subject taster will give you fantastic insight into what it’s like to study Philosophy at University.
 

In Day 1, we provide an overview of Philosophy degrees, including how they’re taught, examples of the topics you may study (“modules”), and videos of campus tours at multiple universities.

In Day 2, we examine the Trolley Problem (one of the most famous ethical dilemmas in modern philosophy), as well as look at the real-world implications of our answers to this problem.

Day 3 asks the question, “Are our emotional responses to fiction real?”, and encourages the student to analyse and critique the arguments presented, in order to understand what makes a strong philosophical argument.

 

This subject taster will be beneficial not only those who are interested in Philosophy, but also to students who enjoy Psychology, Sociology, Politics, Economics, English Literature, Film/Media and more.

Suitable for years 12 and 13.
